As I have said many times before: you don’t need more clothing; you just need more ideas. While I was conceptualizing this newsletter and figuring out what to write about, I just kept coming back to that sentiment and how important runway shows have been for me in terms of sparking new ideas and inspiring shifts in my style. As someone who has always been obsessed with fashion (initially from afar, living in Michigan and not having any connection to the fashion world), I would often look to outlets like WWD and Style.com (which is now Vogue Runway!) for inspiration.

In my lifetime, there have been a few runway shows that have totally transformed me and the way that I dress: Alexander Wang’s Fall 2008 collection, The Row’s first collection in 2007, Theyskens’ Theory in 2011, Celine 2012 Resort designed by Phoebe Philo, Hedi Slimane’s first collection for YSL in Spring 2013, Hedi Slimane again for Celine in 2019 and 2020, and recently Phoebe Philo’s collection and Chemena Kamali’s Fall 2024 Chloé collection.
